to go or not to go

|

I thought there would be a letter waiting for me at home, telling if I got accepted to the next Kosovo Force or not... but my door-mat was empty when I got home from Gothenburg earlier today. Two of my friends already received their answers, one guy got a no and the other one is on the reserve-list.

So the fact that I haven't yet received any message might be a good sign... or not... Maybe they waited and sended the letters of acceptance last! I really want to go so pliiiz, bring me a positive answer!

Belive it or not, I actually fetched all my old The Famous Five-books from my parents attic tonight. I loved the stories about George, Julian, Dick, Anne and Tim just as much as our teacher in school disliked them. She always tried to make us read other books but she didn't convince me, I must have read them all along with other Blyton-books such as The Rockingdown Mystery, Ring O'Bell Mystery and The Treasure Hunters.

Wow, those were the days! I wonder if they are as good now as when I was 10? I'll let you know... ;-)

Blogging often consists of short passages, it goes with the format. Blogs are also often written in an easy, everyday language. These two things makes them perfect for practising another language.

I think that's why I enjoy reading blogs in German so much!

For me, it's hard work reading a book in German. If I want to understand everything, which I usually want, I must have a dictionary nearby. This excludes reading on the way to work or in other situations when you just have a couple of minutes over. Blog entries, being as short as they are, doesn't take that much of an effort.

Lately I've also started reading blogs in Norweigan. Swedish and Norweigan are quite similar, but it isn't the same and I always used to fetch a deep sigh when we were forced to read books in Norweigan at the university (which didn't happen very often I must admit but anyhow). Short blog entries in Norweigan on the other hand, doesn't scare me off and who knows, I might even end up learning some Norweigan :-)

11 p.m. He hasn't rung. Oh fuck. Am so confused.Whole dating world is like a hideous game of bluff and double bluff with men and women firing at each other from opposite lines of sandbags. Is as if there is a set of rules that you are supposed to sticking to, but no one knows what they are so everyone just makes up their own. Then you end up getting chucked because you didn't follow the rules correctly, but how could you be expected to, when you didn't know what they were in the first place?

Bridget Jones. The Edge of Reason by Helen Fielding.

that's a challenge!

Lee is learning Arabic and is all excited about it. That is so cool! I have been thinking about learning Persian for quite some time but maby Arabic is better. Understanding the news from Al-Jazeera would be really, really cool!

I wrote a long comment in German on Johannes Schütz' interesting entry
Weblogs Zeichen fr eine neue Wissenskultur
on Arbeitskreis Offene Kanäle Österreich two days ago but I never posted it.

Why?

I suddenly felt insecure to get involved in a more complicated dicussion in German, a discussion reaching above the more common and easier "I agree/disagree"-kind of comments you often leave in blogs.

I can read quite complicated texts or take part in high-level discussions in German. But I don't have enough confidence to actually say something myself. Not in German at least. As if they would shoot me if I decline an adjective wrong!

The blogosphere consists of so much interesting people and ideas, and I don't want to be locked up in Swedish (a great language btw, you should learn it! ;-)).

And discussion is more important than grammar. I shouldn't worry about der, die and das so much, so why do I?

fantastico!

I read Torill Mortensen's and Jill Walker's essay Blogging thoughts: personal publication as an online research tool tonight and it's brilliant! I wish I had read it two months ago when Gustav first pointed me in their direction. Why didn't they show up at BlogTalk?

Maby I should have three weblogs instead of one: a Swedish, an English and a German.

I've been thinking about it ever since I started blogging in diffrent languages but I always thought it was more convenient to keep everything in one place. Maby it isn't.

K would probably be in favor of a split.

My friends Agnes and Magnus had a babygirl two days ago. They announced their happy news to the circle of friends by sending a e-mail with a url to the hospital's homepage where a photo of all the newborns are put (if the parents agree).

So, anyone want to see Angelica? Of course you want!

it's ripping at the seams

Due to insufficient diskspace, I had to remove almost all older pictures from my photolog and all the blogentries from previous years. I have only 25 MB and somehow, I have managed to fill that up. I'll have to find a solution to this problem because I really like my online photo album and my archived blogentries...

bookmarking headache

Why doesn't Internet Explorer sort my bookmarks for me, so that the ones I frequently visits come on top and the ones I randomly or never visit, disappear somewhere where they don't bother me?

I keep trying to organize them smart but after a couple of weeks it looks all messy again. So why do I even have to bother with this? I mean, my Explorer should know by now, where I ususally hang out and what useless things I bookmark but never, ever returns to. It should tell me "hey steffanie, don't bother because I know you'll never go back"

I know it doesn't take a lot of time to rearrange the bookmarks, but why should I? A computer is a whole lot better than me in keeping track of what I do online and should be able to do a much better job. Maby there already is a software that can do this? In that case, I want it!
